I just got home from 10 days in Fuengirola. Fuengirola is a town located in Malaga, Spain 1 hour from Gibraltar, half an hour from Marbella and Puerto Banus and half an hour from Malaga Airport.
I travelled with my parents and my brother. My brother’s girlfriend joined us for 4 days. We stayed in our friend’s apartment pretty much in the middle of Fuengirola. Fuengirola was a bit too crowded and touristed to my taste, but if you love going out and being close all the fun stuff Fuengirola is definitely for you.
One day we went to Marbella where I stayed at one of my friend’s place and hung out with her. Puerto Banus was…. a bit too materialistic to my taste but an absolute shopping paradise when their summer sale is on. I bought a beautiful Michael Kors purse on 50%. As a vegetarian, it wasn’t the best dining town. You can get a lot of really fancy food with expensive fish and meat but I couldn’t find a single vegetarian dish that wasn’t just a salad.
In Fuengirola’s neighbour town, Benalmadena, there is a mountain that we tried to walk to the top of. While it definitely was a beautiful experience we gave up, walked down and took the lift to the top. The view was stunning!
Then we spent a day in Gibraltar where we took a guided taxi and saw a cave, monkeys and tunnels from the wars. Gibraltar is by far one of my favourite places I’ve ever been. The nature was so beautiful, everyone spoke English, the architecture was fascinating and the structure of the town was what we in Danish call ‘hyggelig’ (cosy, nice, peaceful, happy).
We also spent an afternoon in the mountain town Mijas. In Mijas everything is white. All buildings are white. It’s both beautiful and painful for the eyes at the same time. But if you have the chance to go to Mijas do it!
Now, I’m just excited for school to start in a week and 2 days (yes, I’m counting the days). Vacation is great but learning is better.
Stay happy, stay beautiful
